ANALYTICALAPPLICATION OF CHLORO-BIS [1, 10-PHENANTHROLINE COPPER (II) CHLORIDE 6.5-WATER

Abstract

A mixed-ligand complex chloro-bis[1,10-phenanthroline copper(II) chloride 6.5 water has been synthesized and characterized by infrared, UV-visible, magnetic susceptibility and a single crystal X ray diffraction. The complex was used as a titrant against pure ascorbic acid and ascorbic acid extracts from Amaranthus spinosis (African spinach common name), Telifera occidentalis ( fluted pumpkin-common name), Citrus sinesis, (Orange), Citrus limon (Lemon) and Anarcardium occidentale (Cashew). The complex is found to be self indicating as well as acting as Lewis base in titrimetric analysis. Statistical treatment of the experimental results indicates that the procedure is precise and accurate. The reliability of the method was established by parallel determination against the 2, 6- dichlorophenol-indophenol method.
