COMPARATIVE ASSESSMENT OF TREATED WATER FROM ASA DAM HEADWORK IN ILORIN BEFORE AND AFTER REFURBISHMENT
Abstract
This study was carried out between the year 2005 and 2007 corresponding to the pre- and post-refurbishment periods of Asa Dam Headwork. Treated water was regularly sampled from the clear water tank. The samples were analyzed for physical, chemical and microbiological parameters. The sample temperature ranged from 15oC -23 oC; pH from 6.5-8.0; turbidity from 0.5-3.1 NTU; total alkalinity 30-50ppm and total hardness 18-20.83ppm. All samples showed permissible limit except before refurbishment of the treatment plant. All samples were negative to thermo tolerant Coliform in water which indicates that the water is potable basically after the refurbishment of the treatment plant. The results show that the refurbishment of the plant is efficient, effective and profitable both to the government and end users.
